The Pantry

Often called groceries, ambient goods or speciality foods, the pantry is where you’ll find everything from Italian olive oil to Scottish strawberry jam, decadent Champagne truffles to authentic pasta sauces.

Since we opened in 2005 we have built a reputation for working with only the best suppliers and producers; Tracklements, Charbonnel & Walker, Steenbergs, Belazu, La Molisana, Brindisa and Brodies are only a tiny number of the brands we offer. We feel privileged to represent many small artisan producers; whether its flour that has been lovingly milled by the farmer, or beautifully pungent herbs dried and packaged in Yorkshire, we know you’re going to love our choices. If you're looking for something specific that you don't see here on the website, please drop us an email and we'll do our best to find it for you.

We stock many speciality products you may struggle to find elsewhere, including the ingredients needed to authentically recreate dishes from around the world. And so although huge advocates of the Buy Local, Eat Local philosophy, we also offer a large selection of Spanish, Italian and French products, as well as some from further afield .

If you’ve read this far then I’m sure you’ll agree that there is something wonderfully satisfying about browsing the shelves of a well-stocked deli. Whether you’re a sweet-tooth after the gourmet chocolates, hand-made biscuits or wee bags of fudge, or a fan of the savoury looking for your next favourite spice kit, pickled veg or sharp dipping salsa, I know we have something for you!

An explosion in middle-eastern cooking, the UK’s continued love affair with Indian and Thai cuisine, and even the desire to create an authentic American barbeque have all contributed to the new and exciting ingredients on offer. These ever-changing food trends alongside the growing demand for better quality vegan, gluten free and organic produce have pushed Provender Brown to the forefront as a long-time believer in the power of good food.

You have over 2000 deli products on your website. How do you ensure quality in every item you sell?

Over the years we have quite literally taste-tested thousands of artisan food and drink items – it’s a tough job but someone has to do it! We only stock produce from reputable suppliers who can prove their provenance and often buy straight from the producer. When this isn’t possible, as with some of our international ingredients, we work with a few carefully chosen distributors – Brindisa is a great example – who introduce us to the wonderful ingredients and foodstuffs from producers further afield.

Interestingly, when we came to do the website we had the till spit out just how many different products we’ve stocked over the years and even we were amazed to read 12,000 different items had passed through our shelves. Particularly as Martine and I have probably eaten them all!

Where can I buy good quality gluten free food in Perth, Scotland?

Provender Brown stocks a great selection of gluten free foods. Because our products are made by smaller, artisan companies you will find that many are naturally gluten free as they don’t use bulking agents or any other nasties.

We also stock specific gluten free brands such as Angelic Gluten Free biscuits and oatcakes.

I love to cook Italian - do you stock good quality tinned tomatoes and authentic Italian Pasta?

We do! We stock the amazing Mutti Tomatoes, which as all lovers of Italian food will know, are the benchmark for quality. For 120 years they’ve been producing quality tomato products and their tins contain only Italian tomatoes, red, sweet, ripe and free of yellow and green parts.

For pasta, we stock La Molisana; a family-owned company that for 4 generations and over a hundred years has been carefully selecting and grinding only the finest varieties of wheat. If you’ve not tasted this wonderful pasta then you really are in for a treat.

We also have a range of Italian olives and antipasti, including jars of roasted red peppers and artichokes.
