The Off Licence

Ever since we opened our doors, Provender Brown has been a champion of quality, great tasting wine, often at supermarket prices. We work closely with both Justerini and Brookes, and Liberty Wines to offer an ever-changing selection of small European vineyards that you won’t find in supermarkets or the larger big-brand wine retailers.

Over the past few years though, we have famously become Perth’s most prolific gin aficionados. We are proud to be the team behind Scotland’s much-loved Wee G & T Festival, and boast over 100 gins and gin liqueurs including Perth Gin from a distillery that is literally 500 metres away!

As well as speciality wines and small-batch artisan gins, we also stock an impressive selection of whisky – both single malt and blended - real ales and lagers from Perthshire and beyond, and many craft spirits including rums, vodkas, brandies and liqueurs.

Of course, as well as selling great tasting spirits, wines and beers, we also offer a great choice in premium mixers to ensure you create the best pour each and every time. Fever Tree is a favourite here at Provender Brown and the team will be happy to recommend which of their great flavours marries up best with our gins.

For the non-drinkers, the choice in soft drinks extends to thoughtfully crafted drinks from Fentimans, including their famed Rose Lemonade, locally produced varietal apple juices from Appley Ever After and cordials from Mr Fitzpatrick. There is also traditional ginger beer from Bundaberg and brands such as San Pellegrino, Bon Accord and our local winery’s soft offering, Cairn O’Mohr’s sparkling elderflower ensure that not drinking doesn’t mean missing out.

Frequently Asked Off Licence Questions

There are so many gins to choose from – which should I buy first?

Too hard a question, even for us experts! We have a selection of over 100 gins and gin liqueurs on offer, making Provender Brown one of the largest gin stockists online and in store in Scotland and the UK.

You might want to start by reading our Top Five Gins of Summer 2020 featuring different gins, mixers and serving ideas.

If you want to ask more questions, or speak to one of our gin experts, do drop into the deli on George Street in Perth or send an email and we’ll happily get back to you.

Provenance is important to me when buying wine – can you tell me the suppliers you work with?

We have a large and ever-changing selection of vineyards from old world wine producing regions such as Italy, Spain, Portugal and France and the new world regions of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and South America. We are very selective about the wine suppliers we work with, sticking with those we know we can trust to supply consistently great wines at every price point.

We work with Liberty Wines, an award-winning supplier who regularly sweeps the board at international wine awards. They were named ‘On-trade Supplier of the Year’ at The Drinks Business Awards 2020. This is the sixth time they have taken the title in the last seven years.

Announcing the result in an online ceremony, the judges commented that they “wowed” them with their customer service and range in what was “an incredibly competitive category”.

They were also shortlisted for the overall ‘Drinks Company of the Year’ award, which they have previously won in 2018 and 2019. Now in its 18th year, the Drinks Business Awards are engineered to reward top performers across the global drinks industry.

Where can I buy local Perthshire and Scottish ale and beer?

Provender Brown stocks has a really great selective range of Sottish craft beers and real ales, and a growing number of these breweries can be found right here on our doorstep in Perthshire.

With small, independent breweries stretching from Orkney, through Inverness and into Abernyte, Scottish craft beers are having a well-earned and warmly welcomed moment. Painstaking attention to ingredients and detail and fuelled by desire and enthusiasm for the traditional craft, these local brewers are making their mark not just in Perthshire but across the country and beyond.

What can I drink when I’m driving or pregnant?

The good news is that more and more we are seeing quality, non-alcholic spirits and beers on offer. At present we have 3 varieties of Seedlip Gin, the answer to every gin lover's non-drinking evenings.

Seedlip is "on a mission to change the way the world drinks with the highest quality non-alcoholic options" and we can confirm they taste wonderful.  Pour the three unique and complex blends as you would gin, and simply serve with tonic or mix to create sophisticated non-alcoholic cocktails.

We also have delicous low alcohol cider from Lost Orchards for relaxing in the graden, and Sparkling Elderflower from Cairn O'Mohr for your non-drinking special occasions.
