Abernyte Event Horizon Black IPA
Nestled in the hills above the Carse of Gowrie in East Perthshire, the Abernyte Brewery came about after a conversation over a stock fence about what good beer should be.
The brewers Donnie and Ian source the finest range of malts and hops and use modern German brewing methods to produce a range of continental style beers and ales with a twist. The water is drawn from a spring at the foot of the King’s Seat, the tallest hill in the Sidlaws.
No filtration or fining is used, just the application of cold tank maturation, leaving the flavour of the beer intact.
For lovers of dark beer, this is a twist on a porter recipe that ramps up the bitterness and aroma with hops from the Yakima Valley, Washington State. Dark German Carafa malt gives the roasted coffee/chocolate flavour without being too harsh or burnt. The extra strength carries the bitterness nicely. The usual response from customers is, “this is nothing like Guinness!”
