Top 5 Gins of Summer 2020

Grab some ginspiration from Provender Brown, proud stockists of over 100 craft gins and gin liqueurs.

By

Over the past few years we have famously become Perth’s most prolific gin aficionados. We boast over 100 gins and gin liqueurs making Provender Brown one of the largest gin stockists online and in store, in Scotland and the wider UK.

The rise and rise of artisan gin has fascinating to watch and be part of. Its only a few years ago that gin was one shelf in the off licence, with a few small-batch distillers doing a couple of different flavours at most.  Fast forward to present day and gin is the reason a lot of our regulars found us!

I’m proud to say that our range is largely Scottish - including Perth Gin from a distillery that is literally less than 100 metres away – but we also have a few English brands and go as far afield as Australia for the ever-popular Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin.

Find out more about some of the most popular brands here, including Diane's recommendations on mixers and garnishes, and some alternatives that you may well enjoy equally as much.

Botanist Gin

- Perth Gin.

With juniper at the fore, the gin develops into spicy notes of coriander then the citrus of lemon and lime peel before finishing with aromatic, rich notes of cardamom, fennel, fresh ginger root and star anise. BUY NOW >

Mix and garnish: Try it with Cushiedoos tonic and a slice of blood orange or if you like the flavour of Fever-Tree Aromatic Tonic, it works very well with that too.

If you like Perth Gin, try these: Pickerings Original 1947 or Kintyre

- The Botanist Gin.

A highly distinctive, floral gin. No perfect serve – They say the variety of flavours and the complex, slow distillation create a gin that lends itself to many tastes and the garnish and mixer should be chosen to draw out whichever elements you prefer, be that floral, herbal, menthol or citrus. BUY NOW >

Mix and garnish: We suggest trying it with Fever-Tree Cucumber tonic and a slice of apple.

If you like the Botanist, try this: Seven Crofts

- Shetland Reel Simmer Gin.

The nose opens with strong juniper followed by sweet orange. On the palate the juniper is reduced and it becomes sweet, very sweet orange and liquorice with a lingering finish. BUY NOW >

Mix and garnish: Delicious with Fever-Tree Original, a slice of orange and a sprig of rosemary.

If you like Shetland Reel Simmer Gin, try this: Valentia

- Brockmans Gin

Like no other, this is Ribena for grown-ups!  The more traditional notes of gin are combined with a refreshing influence of citrus and aromatic wild blackberries and blueberries. BUY NOW >

Mix and garnish: Perfect with Fever-Tree Premium tonic, a twist of pink grapefruit peel and 2 blueberries.  Alternatively try with ginger ale or neat over ice.

If you like Brockmans, try this: Bright Spirits Pips

- Lind & Lime Gin

Juniper provides the backbone, complemented by crisp and citrusy lime, and underpinned by earthy flavours of pink peppercorns. The result is deliciously complex, dry and thoroughly refreshing.  BUY NOW >

Mix and garnish: Serve with Fever-Tree Refreshingly Light Tonic and a wedge of lime.

If you like Lind & Lime, try these: Persie Citrus or Redcastle
