Ochagavia 1851 Reserve Carmenere
1851 honours the founding year of Viña Ochagavia. This Reserve line offers a variety of fresh white and red aged wines of the most prestigious valleys from the "Valle Central" zone. Quality wines that express the story of the country and the legacy of its founder. Reserva Carmenère is born in the Rapel valley, approximately 180 kilometers south of Santiago, from vineyards planted on rocky-loam soil located near the Cachapoal river. Grapes are harvested by hand in the wee hours of the morning and then selected on a sorting table. These precautions are necessary to ensure the obtainment of a ripe and concentrated Carmenère of great depth. The wine is stored in French and American oak barrels for approximately 9 months, plus an additional 3 months in the bottle, for a total ageing period of 12 months. Color: Carmine red with violet hues. Nose: Very spicy with fruity aromas of sweet plums. Also present are notes of coffee and chocolate from barrel ageing. Palate: Broad-shouldered, with smooth, round tannins. Medium to high intensity and prolonged finish. A very complex wine with multiple layers of flavors. An ideal pairing for Mediterranean and Thai food as well as red meats.
