Foodie Holidays From The Wee Travel Company April 29, 2017 15:14
We’ve been working with Ailish from The Wee Travel Company, a local, independent travel agent and she kindly offered to write up some great tips for foodie holidays… All we need now is to book the week off!
“As you’re reading this in Provender Brown’s newsletter I think it’s safe to assume you’re a lover of all things food and drink. But how does this factor into your holiday choices? Do you find yourself at the mercy of the family package tour and the generally average take away food that this involves? Or are you lucky enough to search out the amazing food options and vineyard tours that are usually the reserve of the locals?
I’m Ailish from The Wee Travel Company and I love to plan trips incorporating food festivals, local markets and trying all things different!
Did you know there are many holidays out there with food and drink as the main focus? Whether you decide to take inspiration from TV shows like Rick Stein or Alex Pollizi, enrol on a cookery course or follow a “tapas route” (yes they do exist!) it’s easy to take one idea and build it into an amazing trip.
At The Wee Travel Company we particularly like the food trips from Intrepid Travel. These are great as your main holiday or could be incorporated into a longer adventure with everything planned around the food! They’re offered across the world and we’ve recently booked a customer to one in Sri Lanka (it truly does look amazing!).
Closer to home there are many offerings in France, Spain and Italy. How about a Real Food Adventure for 7 days taking in Abruzzo, Puglia and Camparia with cooking lessons, liqueur, olive oil and wine tastings? And because you’re part of a small group these are ideal if you are travelling alone or as part of a couple. Guides are always local, ensuring you of the best food and drink experiences.
Not got a week to spare? Then try a little mini excursion incorporated into a business trip or as part of a family break. How about the Ancient Taste of Genoa – 2 hours of discovering traditional flavours the city has to offer (with much wine of course!).
For something more active but still with amazing gastronomy we love Headwater. In the quest to find companies who are just as passionate as us about sampling local cuisine, these guys come up tops. The service is so fantastic they’ll even pick up your wine purchases from the local vineyard whilst you cycle back to the hotel. That would be the Chablis vineyard cycling tour!
And as amazing as that sounds, our favourite has to be the Loire Gastronomic Cycling experience. This offers a nice gentle ride, ideal for those who haven’t been on a bike for a while, with wonderful hotels, outstanding menus and wine tasting galore. There’s even a couple of nights in a chateau thrown in!
If this all sounds like your idea of holiday heaven why not have a chat with us to find out if we can inspire you to travel somewhere different and you can swap nipping out for an average dinner to the local tavern for heading off the beaten track to watch an amazing sunset with hand-packed picnic.”
