Foodie Gifts And Hampers For Christmas 2016 November 28, 2016 17:50
Hold on to your woolly hats, it is officially Christmas! The lights are switched on, there are trees adorning every street and Santa has arrived in many a Perthshire grotto. The only thing left to do now is buy the gifts and order the Christmas Day dinner. Before you reach for the gin at the very thought, read on to find out my top tips for surviving the gift buying season!
We have loads of foodie gifts as you can imagine, from little chocolate coins and brightly wrapped Santa’s for the tree, to hampers stuffed full of glorious, indulgent goodies including pates, cakes and this year, for the first time, lots of gin!
Christmas Hampers from Perthshire
Call me biased, but I think there is something extra special about gifting hampers for Christmas. There is a high chance that this is based on my love of eating and drinking, arguably life’s finest pleasure, but I’d also say that the idea of giving a gift that will inevitably be shared with others is a wonderful thing.
Hampers date back some 300 years when they were first used by well-heeled customers journeying to their country estates. As they travelled, they’d stop at inns along the way for refreshments but the food was so bad that they eventually called upon Fortnum and Mason to prepare baskets for them.
Seen as a mark of luxury, hampers soon became the gift of choice among the well-to-do and, we’re very pleased to report, led to the modern day tradition of gifting food and drink at Christmas. Nowadays, hampers come in all shapes and sizes with spin off variations including trios or jams, bottles of gin and regional favourites.
This year we have nine hampers, including a cute little hessian bag at only £20, a wonderful gluten free hamper for those poor people who struggle to get a foodie treat and an extremely popular Gin-gle Bells Hamper! Click through to our hampers for sale online to find various hamper sizes – from a one person treat to a big family feast of a hamper - stuffed full of locally source produce from some of the country’s best artisan producers.

This is THE best gift ever for cheese lovers – I know there are a few of you out there – and includes a monthly gift featuring a selection of our finest seasonal cheeses and accompaniments such as crackers or chutneys. The Gift Of Gin
Ever since we ran The Wee Gin Festival back in September 2016, we’ve become the home of gin in Perth City Centre. It started with all 300 tickets selling out, it led to us doubling our shelf space for everyone’s favourite tipple and then to an entire page of gin to buy online. If you’ve not been on and purchased you really must do it today!
As well as this, we talked to our lovely friends at Small City, Big Personality who called on their resident pastry chef, Big G from Maxwell’s Desserts, to create TWO amazing desserts using Edinburgh Gin’s finest. You may remember the Rhubarb & Ginger Gin Cheesecake from the Wee G&T Festival, and I am now delighted to introduce Graeme's Christmas version - Plum and Vanilla Cheesecake.
It was really only a matter of time then, before we added in the Gin-gle Bells Gin Hamper for the festive season to ensure we’d ticked all of your gin-crazed boxes! ENJOY!
I hope you've been inspired by our ideas - please do pop in for more advice, we'd love to see you. Or, if you're frantically trying to fit it all in then why not click over onto the online shop for more ideas?
Happy Shopping, Diane X
